Rational IT is dedicated to bringing breakthrough results in IT planning, implementation, and sustaining management to small, emerging and mid-market enterprises, public education and local and state government.

We advocate an approach to IT that is revolutionary in its common sense: IT planning, implementation and execution, and sustaining management must be unified in a single domain.

IT success, which is rare – less than 10% of IT projects succeed – is really not about the technology. It is about what you do with the technology and how you go about it. It is all about managing technology.

A few exceptional companies achieve this. WalMart is a very big poster child for getting IT very, very right … and it is a market dominator. Dell is another example. As is Amazon. In fact, most breakthrough IT leaders are market dominators.

Rational IT has made a practical science of IT success.

The approach is straightforward:

Do the big right things and do very few of the wrong things and, if you do a wrong thing, correct it fast and aggressively (IT planning)

Do those things the right way, to a very high standard, and aggressively and quickly correct any errors (IT implementation)
Deploy a pervasive system of sustaining management to optimize IT lifecycles and ROI

In practice, executing this approach has proved very difficult for our target small, emerging, and mid-market clients, as well as our educational and public customers.

For most, IT is not their core competence, nor should it be. Most lack the institutional DNA to manage IT in a highly programmatic way and neither do they have a robust process management infrastructure. They need a partner. Rational IT is that partner.

Our approach is highly programmatic, structured, and disciplined and is comprised of two broad domains: R/One IT Program Management for planning, implementation and sustaining management and R/Central, our operations “nerve” center which provides the centralized process management capability.
